Early Years Jason DeFord, better known by his stage name, Jelly Roll, was born in Nashville, Tennessee, on December 4, 1984. He was brought up in the Antioch area of the city.
Music Career
Deciding to go by the stage name Jelly Roll, DeFord published "Year Round," his debut studio album, in April of 2011. It was a joint effort with the hip-hop group SNO, which included Lil Wyte and BPZ, the latter of whom would go on to become one of Jelly Roll's most well-known collaborators. Two months later, Jelly Roll dropped his first mixtape, "Gamblin on a White Boy 4." The studio album "Strictly Business," his first with rapper Haystak, was released towards the end of the year. In April 2012, Jelly Roll released the mixtape "Mid-Grade Miracle (The Boston George Story)" and, in October, his debut solo studio album, "The Big Sal Story." Along with two joint studio albums, "No Filter," with Lil Wyte, and "Business as Usual," with Haystak, he released the mixtape "Whiskey, Weed, & Women" the next year. Top R&B and hip-hop albums ranked both albums as strong successes. To wrap up the year, Jelly Roll released the EP "Whiskey Sessions" and the mixtape "Biggest Loser" in March of 2014. His sole 2015 release was the mixtape "Therapeutic Music 5," which debuted the tune "Smoking Section." Subsequently, Jelly Roll released the solo studio album "Sobriety Sucks" and later teamed up with Lil Wyte on the follow-up album "No Filter 2." Both were released in 2016.
In 2017, Jelly Roll put out two studio albums: "Addiction Kills" and "Waylon & Willie." The second was a joint effort with rapper Struggle Jennings, with whom he later recorded the 2018 follow-up albums "Waylon & Willie II" and "Waylon & Willie III." Jelly Roll also put out his solo studio album "Goodnight Nashville" that year. 2019 saw the release of his EP "Crosses & Crossroads" and album "Whiskey Sessions II." With three studio albums, Jelly Roll had a fantastic year in 2020. "A Beautiful Disaster," his March release, debuted at number 97 on the Billboard 200. Jelly Roll put out another solo album in October called "Self Medicated." Released at the end of the year was "Waylon & Willie IV," his fourth album of joint work with Struggle Jennings. Over the next few years, Jelly Roll's popularity only increased. Released in 2021, his album "Ballads of the Broken" debuted his popular tune "Son of a Sinner." The song won three Jelly Roll CMT Music Awards, including Male Video of the Year, and peaked at number 31 on the Billboard Hot 100 before breaking through to number one on country radio in early 2023. Jelly Roll's song "Dead Man Walking," also from "Ballads of the Broken," became his first rock radio number-one. In 2023, his next album, "Whitsitt Chapel," will be released.

Notable live performances by Jelly Roll have occurred. Thanks to the popularity of his country song "Son of a Sinner," he debuted at the Grand Ole Opry in late. The following year, in July, He received an invitation to perform "Almost Home" with country artist Craig Morgan on stage at the Opry.
