Britney Spears has now sold more than 100 million records globally. Spears ranks as the ninth-best-selling female artist in the US, according to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

Early in the new millennium, Britney reached the pinnacle of her career and was among the highest-paid performers globally. In 2002, her touring and record sales alone brought her $40 million in revenue. Right now, Britney's global tours have brought in around $500 million. Performing at a residency in Las Vegas, Britney made $350-$500 thousand a night between 2013 and 2017.
As you are likely aware by now, Britney was placed under her father's conservatorship for more than 13 years. Following a series of unpleasant and highly publicized personal issues, the conservatorship was established in 2008. Later on, Britney's father would testify that Britney Spears' net worth was essentially zero and "nearly out of funds" when the conservatorship was established.
Despite its flaws, Britney's wealth had increased to $60–70 million by the time the conservatorship ended in August 2021, mostly as a result of her Las Vegas residency. Britney received a $15 million payout a few months after the conservatorship ended.
The Early Years and Success
When Britney Spears was a young performer, she landed parts in television series and theatrical plays. When Spears tried out for a reboot of The Mickey Mouse Club, the show turned her down because she was too young. Spears later signed with a talent agency in New York City, and in December 1992, she was cast in The Mickey Mouse Club. Her 1999 debut studio album, "Baby One More Time," peaked at the top of the U.S. Billboard 200 and was a huge success.
One month later, the Recording Industry Association of America certified the album two times platinum. On its first day, the single "Baby One More Time" sold 500,000 copies, opening at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and becoming the fastest-selling single ever by a female artist.
Hits from Spears' later albums included "Oops!... I Did It Again," "I'm a Slave 4 U," "Me Against the Music," "Piece of Me," and others. Spears has also experimented with acting, landing a major role in the 2002 movie Crossroads. Her then-husband, Kevin Federline, and she costarred in the 2005 reality series Britney & Kevin: Chaotic. Along with designing a limited-edition apparel collection for Candies, Spears has made several TV appearances.
In 2012, Spears was appointed as a judge for the X-Factor. According to her $15 million X-Factor salary, Britney was the highest-paid judge on a singing competition series in television history at the time.
Among Britney's nine albums are Baby One More Time, 1999; Oops, 2000; I Did It Again, Britney (2001); In the Zone (2003); Blackout (2007); Circus (2008); Femme Fatale (2011); Britney Jean (2013); and Glory (2016).
Umbrella Incidents and Mental Health Problems
As you may remember, Britney struggled both personally and professionally in late 2007. The photographers followed her around all the time. It had been over ten years since she became well known. She was a very young mother. Not quite 26 years old. She was fighting hard for custody of her children with Kevin Federline, her ex-husband.
A judge determined she was a "habitual, frequent, and continuous user of controlled substances and alcohol," and she lost custody of her boys. She briefly seemed to go insane. Her father placed her in conservatorship. People believed that was the end back then, even if you wouldn't know it today. The Pop Princess was down and would never recover. Britney stunned everyone by making a huge comeback, and she's even better now.
Home in Las Vegas
Britney inked a $30 million deal for a residency performance at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas back in 2013. Her contract called for her to put on 100 events spread over two years. She extended the contract for her "Piece of Me" show to 2017. Britney's bank accounts, reputation, and career all revived during her four-year residency in Las Vegas.
Over her stay at Planet Hollywood, she gave 250 performances. Spears headlined the last Britney: Piece of Me performance on December 31, 2017. She reportedly made $1.172 million for her last concert of her residency in Las Vegas, shattering the previous record held by Jennifer Lopez for the highest box office receipt for a single act in that city.
Discontinued Work and Residency
The second residency concert by Britney Spears was announced on October 18, 2018, and it was scheduled to open at Park MGM's Park Theatre on February 13, 2019. At $507,000 a show, Spears was supposed to be the highest-paid performer on the Las Vegas Strip. But after her father, Jamie Spears, had a nearly fatal colon rupture in early January 2019, she called off the residency. Spears's team also declared that she will be taking an indefinite leave of absence from work to spend more time with her family.
Wardrobe Management
Britney was put in a court-ordered legal conservatorship following a highly public meltdown in 2008. Britney's father, James, now had authority over her money. James was the conservator of Britney's enterprise, controlling every penny, from her legal bills to Kevin Federline's child support.
Midway through 2014, court records were made public.
With roughly $7 million in cash and the remaining amount in real estate, Spears' net worth is a little over $41 million.
As per his own court filings, Britney's father stated that the pop singer's net worth was merely $3 million when he assumed control of her money.
August 2013 saw the conservatorship valued at $36.1 million, according to TMZ. That year, it grew by $5 million. Documents acquired by TMZ also state that Britney owns or controls a substantial collection of other assets that are not included in the conservatorship.
Estimates for 2020 put Britney's assets under conservatorship at about $60 million.
Britney's younger sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, once tried to take over the estate.
The conservatorship ended in 2021 when Britney made public accusations of abuse against her family and management staff.
Personal Life
1998–2002 saw Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake dating. Britney briefly hooked up with Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit in 2002. 2003 saw Spears attend a film premiere with Colin Farrell, which led to love rumors about the two.
Her childhood friend Jason Alexander and she decided to get married on the spur of the moment in January 2004 after a night of partying in Las Vegas. Then their marriage was dissolved 55 hours later.
On October 6, 2004, Britney married backup dancer Kevin Federline, once again surprising the world. They were divorced in 2007 after having two kids, Sean (born 2005) and Jayden (born 2006). When they separated, she gave Federline merely $1 million, but they also agreed that she would pay him $20,000 a month in child support until their kids were eighteen.
2007 saw the beginning of her relationship with Paparazzo Adnan Ghalib. In 2008, they split up.
2009 saw Britney and Jason Trawick, her former manager, settle down into a committed partnership. December 2011 saw them become engaged; however, they called it quits in January 2013.
After Britney and Trawick called it quits, Spears started seeing David Lucado. They broke up when Spears saw him cheating on her in a TMZ video.
Spears spent eight months in 2014 and 2015 with Charlie Ebersol, a film producer.
While filming her "Slumber Party" music video in 2016, Britney got to know model and far younger man Sam Asghari. 1988 saw Sam's birth in Tehran, Iran. He is thirteen years Britney's junior. In 2022, the couple tied the knot. Sam regretfully filed for divorce on August 16, 2023.
Spousal support for Kevin Federline
When their divorce was formalized in 2007, Federline was given custody of their two children, Jayden James and Sean Preston, and Spears was made to pay him child support. Federline apparently asked Spears for more child support in 2018, and the matter was resolved amicably.
Kevin's support, which was said to be $60,000 a month in 2018, would end when their kids turned 18.
Sam Asghari: Prep and Help
Britney had Sam sign a pretty solid prenuptial agreement before the two were married. The prenup said that Sam was to receive "$1 million per every two years" of their marriage. Sam is presumably not entitled to much, as he filed for divorce after 14 months of marriage. Sam's $1 million per every two years arrangement would have been capped at $10 million if they had continued together. Sam's part of their Thousand Oaks, California, house was not valued by the prenup.
Property
Britney has owned a lot of houses throughout the years, mostly in the Los Angeles area. The following lists her most significant real estate holdings:
In June 2022, Britney purchased a new home in the gated The Oaks neighborhood of Calabasas for $11.8 million. Nine baths and seven bedrooms make up the 11,600-square-foot estate. 33-foot-high ceilings adorn the entrance. Along with an eight-car garage, game room, private office, and 10-seat home theater, the property offers more. A large pool with a jacuzzi and a water slide are characteristic of the roomy outside space.
In 2009, the previous owner completely rebuilt the house. 2012 saw the previous owner put the house up for sale for just under $10 million. 2021 saw a relisting for $15.5 million. June 2022 saw Britney pay $11.8 million for the house. Just two doors up from this property was a house that Justin Bieber and Khloe Kardashian had previously lived in.
For whatever reason, Britney ended up living at her Westlake Village residence and never formally moved into this house. Britney sold her Calabasas estate for $10 million, a loss of over $2 million, around ten months after purchasing it. This is a video tour of her old Calabasas estate:
Westlake Village: Britney paid $6.7 million for a house in an LA neighborhood back in 2012. 2017 saw her sell this house for $7 million.
- 2015 saw Britney pay $7.5 million for a 21-acre Westlake Village estate. Sylvester Stallone created and named the neighborhood where the house is situated, White Stallion Ranch. The 12,500-square-foot home has a library, game room, tennis court, infinity pool, pool house, three-hole golf course, and 4,000-bottle wine cellar. This house is worth, at the very least, $10 million now.
- In 2001, Britney, then 19 years old, paid an undisclosed sum for a property in Hollywood Hills. In 2003, she sold her house to Brittany Murphy, an actress. Sadly, in 2009, Brittany Murphy was discovered dead in this house.
- Malibu: Britney bought a house there in 2004 for $6.3 million. In October 2004, she and Kevin Federline got married at this home. Britney put up this $13.5 million house for sale in January 2007. August 2007 saw her sell the property for $10 million.
- Following her breakup with Federline, Britney spent $6.75 million on a Beverly Hills house in 2006. In 2010, she put this house up for sale for $5.5 million, but when she sold it for $4.2 million in 2012, she lost $2.5 million.
- Kentwood, Louisiana: Britney spent $29,362 for a 7.4-acre property in her hometown of Kentwood, Louisiana, in 1999, when she was eighteen years old and her career was just getting underway. She then started construction on a 6,500-square-foot estate that she called "Serenity." Britney's mother lives here now.
- In 2000, Britney bought a condo in Greenwich Village, New York City. She acquired the four-story penthouse in the building in 2002. The prices of both purchases were kept under wraps. She made $1.5 million selling the smaller apartment in 2011. Her apartment brought her $4 million when she sold it in 2006.
